Drawing students continued working on the final project, symbolic self-portrait. Introduction to Art students began preparing for their group presentation. More than half the Drawing class was talking the PLAN test so the rest of the class used the time to catch up on late work and/or work on the symbolic self-portrait.
Highlight: Becker High School was lucky to receive a grant to work with artist, Judy Sell on a mosaic project for the morning and into the afternoon. Two groups of 10 students were able to work with Judy to begin making mosaic mandalas for an hour at a time. Then, the drawing class came in and glued designs that had already been started. Introduction to Art students spent the time in the computer lab completing mock graduation invitations using Adobe Photoshop CS5. Drawing students assisted in the mosaic project with artist Judy Sell. Introduction to art students continue to prepare for the upcoming presentation, answering the question, "Should it be in a Museum?" (presenting on Monday). Drawing students are continuing to work on their symbolic self-portrait (due Oct. 31).
Introduction to Art students finished their clay mandalas. Class will be meeting in the usual room, 235 again starting on Tuesday. INTRO STUDENTS NEED TO BRING A CURRENT PHOTO AND A BABY/CHILD PICTURE OF THEMSELVES TO CLASS ON TUESDAY. Drawing students continued work on the colored pencil still-life drawing.
Introduction to Art students continued to work with clay to complete their mandalas. Students in Drawing class finished the color pencil worksheet and then began working on a colored pencil still-life drawing using sketchbook paper.
Today was a continuation of a working day with clay for Introduction to Art students. All students should have their clay tile thrown and should have been working to build or carve on the mandala. Drawing students began the color unit by reading Chapter 2 from the painting text book and working on a colored pencil worksheet.
It was a busy day for Introduction to Art students. Today was the first day working with clay which meant learning to wedge clay, throw a slab and begin carving their mandala or adding pieces to it. Drawing students completed the cross-hatching assignment.

Miss Svaren
I have been teaching art at Becker High School since 2001. In 2011, I also started teaching 6th grade art. Sixth graders have been a fun addition to the group I normally work with. Archives
