Drawing students took turns modeling for a partner and then drew a portrait of the same partner. This was an unguided drawing so that students will be able to see their own growth by comparing the portrait from the beginning of the quarter to the end of the quarter.
Painting students read chapter 6 aloud (pages 81-87). Miss Svaren did a demonstration on how to create a color wheel and then students were given time to paint their own color wheel. Introduction to Visual Art students read pages 90-91 and 96-103 in the text book. After watching a demonstration on color mixing, the class began making their own color wheel.

As today was the beginning of the quarter, Introduction to Visual Art students went over the behavior expectations, course syllabus and subscribed to the classroom calendar. Since Ceramics students have all had art class before, we had a little fun with the rules and syllabus and created songs out of them. Then we reviewed the elements and principles of design.

Drawing students continued working on the final project, symbolic self-portrait. Introduction to Art students began preparing for their group presentation. Highlight: Becker High School was lucky to receive a grant to work with artist, Judy Sell on a mosaic project for the morning and into the afternoon. Two groups of 10 students were able to work with Judy to begin making mosaic mandalas for an hour at a time. Then, the drawing class came in and glued designs that had already been started. Introduction to Art students spent the time in the computer lab completing mock graduation invitations using Adobe Photoshop CS5. Drawing students assisted in the mosaic project with artist Judy Sell. |
Miss Svaren
I have been teaching art at Becker High School since 2001. In 2011, I also started teaching 6th grade art. Sixth graders have been a fun addition to the group I normally work with. Archives
